TOPIC – Jędrzej Śniadecki on the physical education of children: "the primary goal of education is health”

Aistis Žalnora (Ph.D.) is a Lithuanian historian of medicine. Graduate of the Faculty of History (MD), Faculty of Medicine (Ph.D) at Vilnius University. Assoc. Professor of  Centre for Health Ethics, Law and History at the Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University. A Member of the Lithuanian Society of History and Philosophy of Science, as well as the Vilnius Medical Society. Member of the editorial board of the magazine Acta medico-historica Rigensia. He is the author of over 40 scientific publications, including parts of several collective monographs. In his doctoral thesis (2015) and subsequent research, he focuses on the development of public health and health sciences in the Vilnius region during 1919-1939, including topics such as the history of anatomy, anthropology, hygiene, psychiatry, neurology, eugenics, and military medicine. A significant part of his activities involves popularizing the history of medicine in public; he has given over 30 TV and radio interviews on various topics in his field. As part of his popularisation of science activities, he conducted ongoing research on Jędzej Sniadecki (1768-1838) and translated his book “On the physical education of Children” (O fizycznem wychowaniu dzieci) from Polish into Lithuanian.
